Laura Maggini was born in La Spezia (Italy) in 1984. She achieved her Master Degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Rome, “Sapienza”, under the supervision of Prof. Lanzalunga, working on sulfoxide chemistry. She then earned a Marie Curie Fellowship to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of Nanotechnology, under the supervision of Prof. Bonifazi at the University of Namur (UNamur, Belgium). Specifically, her research focused on the preparation of novel luminescent material based on carbon nanotubes for photonic applications. After a short research experience in the laboratory of Prof. Takuzo Aida at the Riken Institute in Tokyo (Japan), she joined the group of Prof. De Cola, at the Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (I.S.I.S.) in Strasbourg (France) as a post-doc research fellow, working on the preparation of luminescent mesoporous silica materials for biomedical applications.

Dr. Laura Maggini developed her research activity at the interface between organic supramolecular and material chemistry. Even though working on different materials, spanning from carbon-based nanostructures to metal and silica nanoparticles, her aim has always been their modification in a supramolecular fashion with the aim of emphasizing their intrinsic properties or adding new functionalities.
