EDUCATION

University:         2011-2013 Università Alma Mater Studiorum di Bologna

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Photochemistry and Molecular Materials 110/110 cum laude (with honour), defending a thesis entitled: “Generation and tracking of two-dimensional motion by bipolar electrochemistry” (17/10/2013)

University:         2008-2011 Università degli studi di Palermo

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree in Chemistry 110/110 cum laude (with honour), defending a thesis entitled: “Structural characterization of the quaternary system H2O/CTAB/Butanol/Heptane by means conductimetry and Small Angle X-Ray Scattering (SAXS)” (29/09/2011)

Higher education: Liceo Classico Statale “Umberto I” Palermo, mark 100/100 cum laude

CORE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

·       Participation on selection at 58th  orientation course of SNS “Scuola Normale di Pisa” (21 – 29/ 07/2008).

·       I spent three months in 2011 in the laboratory of professor Delia Chillura at the University of Palermo to prepare my bachelor thesis; During thesis period I have acquired skills in the use of U-Nanostar  instrument for Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) measurements. I studied the behaviour of a quaternary microemulsion  by means SAXS techniques.

·       I spent six months (February-July 2013) in the group NSysA “Nanosystemé Analytique” at ENSCBP of University of Bordeaux I under professor Alexander Kuhn to prepare my master thesis; there I learnt to work with the bipolar electrochemistry techniques and I applied this type of technique to generate and track a real two-dimensional motion of bipolar objects, which is absolutely mandatory for a variety of potential applications, ranging from micro-mechanics to nano-medicine.

I am working on different projects all based on photophysical and electrochemical methods. In particular, I am exploiting the world of nanostructured materials, which have recently received much attention in other fields such as advanced materials for display elements, bio-medicine and cosmetic. Nonetheless, the combination of such emissive materials with electrochemical methods still represents a rather unexplored yet promising field. This combination comes out in the Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) technique. The aim is to obtain new hybrid system with an higher efficiency in ECL in order to use them in biodiagnostic or biosensing.

In parallel, I am working on electrochemical characterization of different metal complexes and the possibility to electropolymerize them onto an ITO surface for photovoltaic purpose, and finally on the fabrication of OLED with different active layers for opto-electronics.
