Veronika Zajicova was born on September 14th 1984 in TURNOV (the Czech Republic). She has obtained one year postdoctoral fellowship in Professor´s Luisa De Cola group at the Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (I.S.I.S.), Université de Strasbourg since August 2014
She started to study Chemistry at Technical University of Liberec (the Czech Republic) in 2004, where she got her M.Sc. degree in 2008, defending a thesis in organic chemistry under the supervision of Professor Ivan Stibor. Afterwards, she studied her Ph.D. at the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the same University in Liberec, where she obtained her Ph.D. degree in Material Engineering in 2011, defending a thesis in material chemistry under the supervision of Assisted Professor Petr Exnar. During her Ph.D. studies she spent a three-month internship at École nationale supérieure de chimie de Montpellier (2009), in the research group, led by Dr. Michel Wong Chi Man, where she worked with organosilanes to synthesize (via sol-gel method) new types of hybrid, non-cytotoxic polymeric systems for preparation of nanolayers through methods spin-coating or dip-coating. Her research was focused on preparation and characterization of hybrid nanolayers.
After she finalized her Ph.D., she worked for 3 years as junior researcher at the Centre for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation (Liberec, the Czech Republic) in the Laboratory for Biomedical Applications. She focused on the preparation of antibacterial, antimycotic and antivirotic nanolayers active especially against pathogenic bacteria (MRSA, proteus vulgaris, pseudomonas aeruginosa, acinetobacter baumanii and many others) and developing of a new type of nanofibrous wound-dressings for difficult-to-heal wounds like ulcers or decubitus are.
The current main target of her research is to explore new types of organotitanium and hybrid titanium-silica compounds, which can be applicable in different fields of chemistry and/ or in medicine.
